The Whistler based band Animal Nation found Canada-wide exposure by both being cast in supporting roles in MTV\'s Peak Season as well as licensing several of their songs to the show.
The show later went on to be picked up by VH1 in the US as well as airing on MTV networks in 145 countries worldwide, and is being re-aired right now across Canada and the States. Our latest release has been charting near the top of nation-wide college hip-hop charts, including being number 2 in Ottawa, #3 in Banff, #1 in Calgary, #1 in Lethrbridge, #1 in Kamloops, #3 in Saskatoon. Our latest music video (self directed/shot/edited) was also featured in the 2011 Whistler Film Festival in the short-works Film Maker Showdown, and was nominated for the Shortworks Award.

Our style is laid-back, west coast indie hip-hop and we find that we place well with fans of hip-hop, indie-rock, folk, or even punk. The band is fronted by two MCs-
Mike Armitage (Armadillo Slim) is on vocals as well as the decks.
Garnet Clare (Tall Man) adds keys, harmonica, banjo, live percussion and other unique musical elements to their show.
We also have a rotating cast of other players and talkers.

Even though our sound is laid back we are masters at getting people into the show with our witty banter and on stage antics. We have opened for the likes of Classified, Jully Black, Zion I, Hilltop Hoods, Sweatshop Union, Blackalicious and Buck 65 and have performed at several major festivals including 2010 Winter Olympics (official Village mainstage), Telus, Crankworx, Pemberton Music Festival, Shambala and Canada Day on Parliament Hill. Mike is also an experienced DJ and, if it fits the show, can DJ before and/or after our set.Animal Nation is:
Steige Tall Man Turner, and
Mike Armadillo Slim Armitage.

Animal Nation formed in 2004 after a heated argument between the two not-then members, over the quality of another bands performance. The members of Animal Nation are hesitant to call their music hip-hop because a lot of hip-hop sucks. The members of Animal Nation think this is unfortunate because they really, really love good hip-hop, but know that the general population thinks that hip-hop sucks as well. Animal Nation is the greatest band you will ever hear. After listening to Animal Nation it will henceforth be impossible to appreciate any other sort of music that is not Animal Nation.

-Kent Osborne, Adventure Time, SpongeBob Squarepants writer say:
\"Animal Nation should be prescribed by physicians as an oratory cure-all for many of the ailments which plague the human condition, including, but not limited to, depression, heartache, ennui and the blahs. I defy anyone to listen and not feel happy.\"

Animal Nation just came home from our early April tour out to Saskatoon and back, rounding up with an appearance at the 2012 Telus Ski and Snowboard Festival. In June they will be heading to Toronto for NXNE:

(Now in its 18th year, North by Northeast Festivals and Conference (NXNE) has become the Canadian festival destination for emerging artists and major-label headliners, for music filmmakers, and for digital interactive innovators bridging the gap between technology and the arts.)

In July they are set to play the Vancouver Island Music Festival (including appearances by KD Lang, and Emmylou Harris). Previous accolades include playing the 2010 Olympics, Pemberton Festival, and multiple
festivals/events all listed below.

As Garnet Clare say, Basically we\'re a really, really interactive, fun-for-all-genre-lovers group, that will absolutely have the crowd smiling and having a great time. We\'re also doing things with our live show that hip-hop has never seen before. For instance, Check out the video of our 3 piece playing guitar/drums/bass/piano/horns without any loopers or pre-set music. Our 2 MC\'s are featured, and play a wide array of instruments (banjos, slide guitar, piano, harmonica) both on stage and in studio.

Mike is also a very skilled DJ and can DJ before and after our sets to keep the party going all night. We can easily provide an entire evening of entertainment.

We also just released a new album with our label - URBNET - and will be heavily promoting that via college radio and print. The new album is called \"The Basement Tapes Vol.1\", and was released on March 27th.
